Frequently Asked Questions
Whether you’re considering a package, comparing options, or just browsing, these answers explain how we work together and what to expect from the process.
Is hosting included?
Hosting is not bundled into the design packages, but I do offer Canadian-based hosting and maintenance as a yearly service.
This includes reliable hosting, updates, backups, and general site care—so your website stays secure and functional without you having to think about it.
Do I have to use your hosting?
No, and I’d be happy to direct you to great, reliable Canadian hosting.
I’m happy to build on alternate hosting platforms, the cost for updates would differ depending on your level involvement after launch.
What ongoing costs should I expect?
Of course, you’ll need to pay for your domain name. Outside of yearly hosting costs, should you make regular requests for changes, that time is tracked and billed, as set out in our agreement.
What are your payment terms?
A 50% deposit is required to secure your project start date. The remaining balance is due at the agreed-upon project completion date, typically within 2–6 weeks (or up to 8 weeks for larger projects).
Project time is reserved in advance. If a project extends beyond the agreed timeline due to delays outside my control, the final payment is still due on the original completion date.
Hosting is billed separately and begins three months after final payment.
In some cases, we can discuss structured payments within the project timeline if needed.
What’s included in each package?
Each package is designed around a different level of complexity and support. All builds include a professionally designed WordPress website, mobile responsiveness, essential setup, and a structure that supports future growth.
Higher-tier packages include more strategic input, additional pages or features, and deeper setup—particularly around content structure and search readiness.
If you’re unsure which level fits your business, we’ll talk it through before anything is finalized.
How does SEO fit into each package?
Every website I build includes foundational SEO. That means your site is structured properly, uses clear headings, loads cleanly, and is set up so search engines can understand what you do and who you serve.
As packages increase in scope, SEO considerations become more layered—such as more intentional page structure, improved internal linking, and better support for ongoing content like blog posts.
What’s important to know is this:
SEO isn’t a one-time feature. It’s an ongoing outcome of useful content, consistency, and time.
I make sure your website supports that process, but long-term SEO results come from continued effort—often through blogging or content creation.
Do you offer blogging or ongoing SEO services?
I design websites that support blogging and content-based SEO, but I don’t position myself as a full-scale SEO provider.
If blogging or ongoing SEO becomes part of your growth strategy, I can help ensure your site is set up properly and recommend specialists if deeper work makes sense.
What about local SEO?
For service-based businesses, location matters.
I help ensure your site includes the right signals for local visibility—such as service areas, location-based language, and structural elements that support local search. This is especially useful for businesses serving a defined region.
As with all SEO, results improve over time and with consistent, useful content.
What’s a typical timeline for a website project?
I set aside time for each project to ensure your project is done on time. This includes time for feedback and testing.
Projects generally take between 2 and 6 weeks, sometimes up to 8 for larger builds.
Who is this work best suited for?
This work is best suited for service-based business owners who care about the experience they offer and want their website to reflect that. Many of my clients are established or growing businesses who are ready to move beyond DIY solutions and invest in a site that feels considered, professional, and aligned with how they actually work.
If you value clarity, collaboration, and decisions that hold up over time—and you’re looking for a website that supports your business rather than complicates it—we’ll likely be a good fit.
What platform do you build websites on?
I build websites using WordPress, a flexible and widely supported content management system. WordPress allows your site to grow with your business, gives you ownership of your content, and avoids locking you into proprietary platforms.
I customize each site carefully — this isn’t about themes or templates, but about building a site that supports how your business actually works. If you’ve used WordPress before, it will feel familiar. If you haven’t, I’ll make sure it feels manageable and approachable.
Will I be able to do updates myself?
Yes — WordPress makes it possible for you to update content like text, images, and blog posts if you choose to. I’ll walk you through what’s realistic to manage yourself and what’s better handled as part of ongoing support, so the site stays reliable without becoming another job.
